When taken apart, a well worn pair of jeans tells a story of a life well lived. The fragmented pieces are then reconstructed in a modern and durable homage to a lost soul.
Memorial quilts have a long and storied history and are a wonderful way to honor the life of a lost loved one. What better way to remember a loved one than to have a quilt to touch, feel, hug, gaze at, cuddle under, picnic on. Memorial quilts are often made from the deceased person’s clothing which adds to the personal and intimate nature of these quilts. Conversely, projects like the “AIDS Memorial Quilt”, a collaborative art project that was started in the 1980s to honor those who lost their lives to the Aids epidemic, incorporate not only the lost soul’s clothing but have detailed imagery and icons from that person’s life. We can all marvel at these works of art and get a true sense of their soul and personality. I like to think that “In Memorium” does the same, or at least reminds its owner of the life they shared with the man who wore these jeans.
